Pearl-shaped diamond jewelry is the best option for Chinese people, Hong Kong’s diamond-industry leader has said.
The Pearl Diamond Company, a conglomerate that has about 20 percent of the world’s diamond output, said the company is expanding its Hong Kong operations and plans to open more factories in the future.
The Pearl Diamond Group is also developing the Pearl Diamond Pearls brand.
Its Hong Kong operation will feature an 8,000 square foot factory, where the pearls are being made.
It is expected to produce more than 200,000 pearls a year, said Pearl Diamond Co-CEO Lee Hui-woo, who was speaking during a presentation on the Pearl Pearl Pearl Diamond company at a Hong Kong diamond-supply and trade conference on Friday.
“We will expand Pearl Diamond’s manufacturing capacity in Hong Kowloon, expanding its production facilities there,” he said.
The company’s production in Hong Kwang-Tung, the second-largest city in China, is about 2,000 to 3,000 stones a day, according to the Pearl Diameters and Jewelry Industry Association.
There are currently more than 4,000 Pearl Diamond factories in Hongkong.
Pearl Diamond Co, founded in 1989, is one of the largest producers of diamonds in the world.
The Hong Kong-based company produces over 1.8 million pieces of diamond jewelry a year and is one the largest suppliers of diamond-encrusted goods in the region.
