WASHINGTON – An international team of researchers has invented a new type of footwear called pearl couscat, which is designed to help women in developing countries adapt to the heat and cold conditions in which they live.
The team led by Dr. Moustafa Abdel-Karim from the University of California, Los Angeles, said their new shoe is based on a “pearl-sandal hybrid” that mimics the movement of the sandals on the foot.
“The combination of a synthetic layer with the natural properties of the human foot, along with a lightweight and breathable fabric, enables us to produce a high-performance, lightweight, comfortable and stylish footwear,” Abdel-Karim told AFP news agency.
“It also is extremely flexible, can be worn in many different styles, and is made from a very soft and flexible material.”

But when it gets to a certain point, they start to think that it’s better to wear the sandal instead.
“Abdel-Kar, who is also the head of the department of materials science at the U-M Department of Materials Science, said the shoe is a “really powerful innovation” that could potentially make it easier for people to adapt.”
When we started talking about this idea, we were thinking about the environment, about the impact on the environment,” he said.
The new sandals are made from lightweight and flexible materials that are both waterproof and extremely breathable.
The shoes are available in various sizes, ranging from 10 centimeters to 12 centimeters, and can be customized to the wearer’s needs, Abdel-kar said.
They are made of polyester, leather, nylon and nylon-polyester, which were all sourced from Morocco.
The shoe was made using a process that allows for the “synthesis” of the materials, Abdelkar said, which can be “in the laboratory” or “in-the-field”.”
We created a whole new kind of footwear that is based upon this process,” he added.”
These materials have been used in footwear for centuries.
We were able to create something that was not only extremely lightweight, but very flexible, extremely breathably, and that is extremely comfortable.
“The shoes have been worn in more than a thousand people and have helped people “get a sense of independence and self-respect,” Abdelkarim said, adding they also help people with mobility problems.”
This product is not only about being comfortable, but also about being adaptive,” he told AFP.”
