Balotellis return to the club was not as smooth as he had hoped.
The 29-year-old was suspended for the first leg of the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United in August after testing positive for cocaine in a bar, but the ban was later overturned.
“The first leg was a lot harder than the second one, the suspension was not a huge issue and the team didn’t have any problems,” he added.
“On the other hand, the ban lasted longer and the players did not play well.
It was a very hard time.”
Balottei was one of three players to miss the start of the season.
